Dell has announced recently the new business notebook line, including the Latitude E5400 14.1-inch series with “everyday features at a cost-effective price”.
The Dell Latitude E5400 is based on Intel’s Centrino 2 technology. The laptop comes with the Core 2 Duo or Celeron CPU, depending on customer’s choice. It features GMA 4500MHD integrated graphics, up to 4GB of DDR2 memory, up to 250GB of hard drive space, and a DVD ROM, Combo optical drive, or DVD burner. The E5400 has a 1280×800 or 1440×900 widescreen display.
Other features include various wireless options, including support for 802.11 draft-n standard, mobile broadband, and GPS. There are also Bluetooth, Gigabit Ethernet, and 56k modem connections.
The laptop has a touchpad with optional Trackstick pointing device, one PC Card slot with support for a 34mm ExpressCard via a caddy, four USB slots, VGA and S-Video outputs, and a Firewire port.
For enhanced security, the E5400 sports an optional fingerprint reader, optional Smart Card reader via the PC Card slot, and the Trusted Platform Module 1.2.
The notebook weighs around 5.6 pounds with a 6-cell battery. Optionally, it can be configured with a 4-cell or 9-cell unit. The 9-cell battery provides up to 6 hours of run time between charges, according to Dell.
The Latitude E5400 runs Windows Vista OS and has a basic price of $788. It is available now at Dell’s online store.

Dell has launched recently the Latitude E5500 15.4-inch business notebook, which belongs to the new Latitude E Series.
The Dell Latitude E5500, which provides budget-minded customers with everyday laptop features, is based on the Intel Centrino 2 mobile platform. The laptop comes with a Core 2 Duo processor, the GMA 4500MHD integrated graphics, up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM, up to 250GB of hard drive storage, and a DVD ROM, Combo drive, or DVD burner. The E5500 is configurable with a 1280×800 or 1440×900 widescreen display.
Communication features include various wireless options, including support for 802.11 draft-n WiFi standard. There are also Bluetooth, Gigabit Ethernet, and 56k modem connections.

Hewlett-Packard’s new 12.1-inch ultraportable notebook for business users - the HP Compaq 2230s - is now available for purchase.
The 4-pound 2230s is based on the Intel Centrino 2 mobile platform. It uses the latest Core 2 Duo 45-nanometer processors, but is also offered with Celeron CPUs. The laptop supports up to 8GB of DDR2 memory and comes with up to 320GB of hard drive capacity and a built-in DVD, Combo, or DVD burner optical drive.
Its display has a resolution of 1280-by-800 pixels and is managed by the Intel GMA 4500MHD integrated graphics.
Regarding communications, the HP Compaq 2230s supports 802.11 draft-n wireless, Gigabit Ethernet, 56k modem, and Bluetooth connections.
There are also a built-in fingerprint reader, HDMI and VGA outputs, and three USB ports, as well as ExpressCard and Secure Digital slots.
HP’s 2230s starts at $999.

Hewlett-Packard has launched the HP EliteBook 6930p 14.1-inch business laptop, the first model in the new EliteBook ruggedized series.
The newly designed 4.7-pound notebook meets the military standard MIL-STD 810F for vibration, dust, humidity, altitude, and high temperature. It has a shock-resistant hard drive and spill-resistant keyboard, as well as brushed anodized-aluminum exterior combined with a magnesium alloy chassis. HP says the EliteBook provides an “all-day battery life”.
The EliteBook 6930p is based on Intel’s Centrino 2 “Montevina” mobile platform with vPro management technology, and features the next generation 45nm Intel Core 2 Duo 9000 and 8000 series mobile processors. The system comes with Intel’s integrated graphics or AMD’s ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450 dedicated GPU, up to 8GB of DDR2 memory, and up to 250GB of hard drive capacity. In addition, users can replace EliteBook’s optical with an optional secondary hard drive.
The display in the 6930p features LED backlight and a resolution of 1280×800 or 1440×900 pixels, depending on customer’s choice. The laptop has a built-in 2MP web camera with Business Card Reader software and stereo speakers.
HP’s EliteBook 6930p incorporates a variety of communications and networking options including the un2400 EV-DO/HSPA mobile broadband module, Intel’s 802.11a/b/g/draft-n WiFi, and Bluetooth. There are also a Gigabit Ethernet port, and a 56k modem.
The notebook has an ExpressCard slot, three USB ports, VGA output, and Firewire port.
Regarding security features, there are a Smart Card reader, HP ProtectTools, TPM 1.2 Embedded Security Chip, Enhanced Pre-Boot Security, HP Disk Sanitizer, Enhanced Drive Lock, HP Fingerprint Sensor, Drive Encryption for HP ProtectTools, Credential Manager for HP ProtectTools, and File Sanitizer for HP ProtectTools, as well as optional Kensington lock, HP Privacy Filter, and McAfee Security Solution. The new security innovation is HP Spare Key, “which addresses the hassle of forgotten passwords by using a sequence of three predetermined personal identification questions to gain immediate entry into the system”.
Along with Windows Vista operating system, the EliteBook also sports HP QuickLook2 software, which provides fast access to email, calendar, task and contact information at the touch of a button.
HP EliteBook Series has a starting price of $1,199.00 at Hewlett-Packard’s website.
According to HP, the company will also release EliteBook models based on the latest technology by AMD, with Turion 64 X2 Ultra dual-core mobile processors.

Lenovo has announced recently the ThinkPad W500 mobile workstation, a 15.4-inch laptop for engineers and digital content creators.
The Lenovo ThinkPad W500 is based on Intel’s Centrino 2 mobile platform and includes the latest Core 2 Duo 45-nanometer processors, the ATI Fire GL M86-GL 512MB dedicated video card, up to 8GB of DDR3 memory, up to 320GB of hard drive space or a 64GB solid state drive, and various optical drive options, including Blu-Ray. Another option is the Intel Turbo Memory 2GB module, for faster boot-up and better responsiveness.
Its display has a resolution of 1680-by-1050 or 1920-by-1200 pixels, depending on customer’s choice.
Regarding communications, the W500 sports an 802.11b/g or 802.11a/g/n wireless connection, Gigabit Ethernet LAN, Bluetooth, and optional mobile broadband with GPS. WiMAX and Ultra WideBand (UWB) modules will be offered later this year.
The mobile workstation also incorporates an optional web camera, three USB ports, FireWire, and DisplayPort and VGA outputs. Available expansion slot combinations are ExpressCard with PC Card reader or ExpressCard with Smart Card reader.
The W500 has advanced security features, such as the TPM v1.2 chip and BIOS disable of all ports, as well as optional fingerprint reader and full hard drive encryption.
According to a product specifications sheet, the Lenovo ThinkPad W500 provides up to 3.8 hours of battery life when configured with a 6-cell battery. An 9-cell unit can extend the battery life to maximal 5.9 hours.
The laptop has a starting weight of 5.8 pounds and runs Windows Vista 32-bit or 64-bit operating system.
The W500 is available now at Lenovo’s website for a basic price of $1,629.
